Poison Apple

Remember the story of Snow White?  You know, the young lady whose step-mother was the queen and felt threatened by her presence.  Snow White ran away and moved in with a bunch of little people (er, dwarfs).
At some point the queen found her and plotted to kill her.  She disguised herself and brought Snow White the most amazing looking apple.  One problem - it was poisoned!  It made Snow White pass out until a charming prince showed up and kissed her.

Fast forward to last night... My husband was "out with the guys", so I was home alone with my 2 beautiful sleeping "little people".  There was a knock on the door, then another.  It was 10:00, who would be at my door then?  Whoever it was seemed fairly persistent, so I answered it.  It was none other than the wicked queen disguised as a pizza delivery person.  Her poison apple?  A pizza.
If I had known she was coming I might not have felt quite so much like Snow White.  She brought a beautiful pizza and declared that my darling husband had already paid for it.  She did not tell me it was poisoned... with 3, yes 3 types of cheese hidden beneath a layer of peppers and onions.  I didn't pass out, that might have been better though.

Allergy Awareness

Before I leave my sweet little man in the church nursery, I've got to figure out a good way to help adults remember that he has egg and peanut allergies.  Maybe it's weird, but I'm paranoid about leaving him with anyone because I have seen his face swell up after a tiny bit of egg.. scary stuff.

Does anyone have some great advice about how to help caregivers remember to keep him away from allergens?

Spoiled Sleeper

I admit it, my 2 year old is a spoiled sleeper.
He has always been a spoiled sleeper.  When he was tiny, he slept in a bassinet next to our bed.  He had his own room until he was about 7 months old, but really only slept in it for naps.  In the night, when he would wake up, sleepy mama would put him back to sleep, and often stay in the recliner cradling him.  (I know, I know.. bad mama).

When Monkey was 7 months old, his room moved to the "porch" area right outside our bedroom in order to make room for a foster son to start spending some nights.  Monkey's room door was literally 2 steps outside of our bedroom.

Transition to toddler bed!
Around 15 months, we decided it was time to move him to a toddler bed.  This was a tough transition for him, but it really only took about a week.  He still needed a lot of help to fall asleep on his own.

We officially moved to Fort Wayne in June, just a month before his second birthday.  Monkey's room was directly ajoined to ours, an open doorway separating them.  He took a lot of coaxing to fall asleep, every night (I'm talking 2-3 hours of needs).  He'd often wake in the middle of the night and climb into our bed before he could fall back asleep.

In January we moved our bedroom and then, put him in a twin sized bed.  This boy's sleep is really messed up, a lot of bed time transitions and he just does not know what to do so far away from mama and daddy.  He's still waking in the night, venturing down the stairs (blankets in hand) and climbing into our bed a lot of nights.  A few nights, he's made it through in his own bed.  He still take a lot of attention to get to sleep.  We're getting there.. but boy is he spoiled!

Minnesota... (er, Mini Soda)... Vacation

I meant it when I told my sister I wasn't writing any more today... and then I was thinking about our super-mini vacation...

On New Year's Eve, Randy and I had the opportunity to visit our friend "Big Red".  On our way to pick up our kids we really needed to stop for the restroom.. you know how that goes?  So we stopped at this amazingly fantastic resort.  To find out more about the "resort", read the rest of the story after my photos.

I am mama, hear me roar

The sign behind us says "Bear Lodge"

Sneaking a smooch after a (very) short hike

Okay, so the truth?  We were in Osceola, Indiana.  Yep.  That's McDonalds on Lincolnway.  It's amazing.  We had a great time being "tourists" and enjoyed the rustic feel of this "lodge".  We picked up some drinks and discovered a little park next door with a beautiful woods and walking path.  Our favorite new spot, can't wait to take the boys, when it's warmer.   Oh, and I didn't mention, they have a playplace!
