Project Day :Part 2

Thursday was my scheduled "stay at home and relax" day, BUT Baby was sick and I scheduled a doctor appointment for him.  We were fortunate that his cough improved dramatically overnight before the appointment and we ended up cancelling.  I had all kinds of plans for things I could do during the day (since I had the van and hadn't planned on it).

I decided that I wanted to have a project day with the boys instead of going on a dumb bell hunt at the thrift stores.  So we made pine cones with seeds on them for the birds, then we filled our newest bird feeder (don't miss that review - fantastic bird feeder.

Next I started some bath water...

Had the boys strip down to their skivvies...

and pulled out a canvas and some paint.

I started this project a few weeks ago and hadn't finished it.  I decided the best idea was to have them help me out so I would be less critical of my work.  I think I like the results...

Crackers liked painting - for a few minutes.

Monkey worked hard on this project.  He wanted to make sure there were no white spots left on the canvas!

The boys worked well together.

Blue looks good on him.

"I drink" Ugh - I left the bottle on the table - he didn't actually drink it, but he did get plenty on his mouth.

I kind of like it as is, but there's more work to be done.

The final touch was adding stars.  Monkey had all kinds of ideas about placement - this is basically where they ended up.

Each star has a word on it that represents something about our direction for the year as individuals and as a family.  The small stars are our individual compass points and the large star is one I believe is a promise to the family that we will achieve as we move toward the smaller stars.

  1. What a great project! I love that you let your boys paint the canvas. I think I'll do that with my son too! I have a spare canvas and I think he would have a blast painting it. What type of paint did you use?

  2. I just used $.33 craft paint - acrylic I think. I put down a vinyl table cloth so if they spilled or painted the floor it wouldn't be a big deal.
