Signs of Spring

Grandpa used to tell us that robins were a sign of spring.  He was a bird lover and a bird watcher.  I loved to sit with him and watch the many kinds of birds that came to his feeders.  He could name each type as it showed up.  I loved that.  Grandpa was a fascinating man.

I was thinking of him this morning as we got ready for or field trip to the pet store.  See, we showed up at the store before my sister, so we sat in the car for a few minutes waiting.  Monkey quickly noticed a bird in the tree near our van.  He pointed and yelled about it repeatedly.  It was a robin.  A sign of spring, new growth, warmth, melted snow, warm rain showers, and muddy boots.

I wish I hope my boys learn to love birds the way he did.  I sure miss him.
Monkey's first robin sighting of the year.

  1. I love watching birds also. We don't get much of a variety here though. Every now and then something unusual comes by and I get all excited and run for my bird book so I can figure out what it is.

Thanks so much for stopping by The House on the Corner ~ I'm following back!

  2. My grandparents (who raised me) were bird lovers also and I grew up with a great appreciation for birds (and nature in general). My kids seem to share this and have become pretty good at identifying the different types of birds typical for our part of the county.

Here's to a beautiful spring -- I'm really tired of snow (of which they are saying we are going to get more next week --sigh :-)

    I'm a new follower :-)

  3. Thanks for sharing Marie, and for following.
My husband's Christmas gift to me this year is a bird room. We've yet to finish it but it's windowed on 2 sides and we'll be putting feeders on one side and a small garden on the other. I hope to find a small table and chair to enjoy some coffee or a snack with my boys while watching the birds.
